Here is the upcoming schedule for the BHCC Safe Homes Parent Network – COFFEE TALK
Coffee Talk is Thursday morning at 9am at Common Ground Coffee House in Burlington. Come on in, order your favorite coffee, join in the conversation, and we’ll pick up the tab!
May 6 – Summer tips for PAWS and Beyond There are all kinds of things students can be doing during the summer that are fun, but also help them get ready for life after high school. Lindsay Fiker, the BEHS Career Counselor will join us to give the Top 10 list for ways to get ready for success over the summer. It’ll be even better that Dave Letterman’s Top Ten! ‘Cuz we’re all involved in helping to prepare these kids for the future
May 13 – Video Games: Friend or Foe Video games have come a long way from Atari and PacMan and they seem to consume our kids attention – much more than homework and chores! But are they all bad? Can they be beneficial? We will share various sides of the conversation and you come to the decision that best works for your family. We will even have a few “expert” panelists to answer your questions.
May 20 – Teaching Refusal Skills to Our Kids Our kids are faced with daily challenges and decisions. Often they know what they want to do – and what they don’t want to do, but aren’t sure how to say no. We as parents can give them skills and opportunities to respectfully decline so they don’t end up making a decision they know is not for them.
May 27 – Burlington Edison School’s FOOD EVOLUTION Many of us have seen Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, but how does that information apply to Burlington-Edison School district? Burlington –Edison Schools have been working to improve our school lunches, so for us, it is continued evolution rather than a new revolution. Why do some schools have salad bars and others not? How much of the food that is served to our kids is from local growers? The answers to these and many more of your questions are yours Thursday, May 27 when Don Vennetti, B-E School District Food Services Director joins us at Coffee Talk. I encourage you to submit any questions you may have by replying to this address so that Don can have facts readily available.
And in case you were wondering – YES we will have Coffee Talks through the summer. We will also be starting a blog of our Coffee Talks. In case you are unable to come due to your work schedule, you can still keep up with what other parents are doing to keep connected with their kids. We’re all involved in preparing these kids for the future. Let’s do it together.
